On 15 December 2015, members and friends of Rotary Club Sofia International visited together the Deutscher Weihnachtsmarkt in Sofia. The main purpose of the visit was to support our friends from the Association “Children with Onco-Hhematologic Diseases”, for whom we are collecting money with this Rotarian year’s Fundraising Events for purchasing a mini van to transport the kids to and from the recreation center in Opicvet village.
All the participants purchases an amazing Christmas presents made by the kids and their parents.
Mr. Schenk presented our Rotarian flag as a gift and promised that we will do our best to support them in their endeavors.
Of course everybody used the opportunity to enjoy a glass of Glühwein.

On 9 December 2015, H.E. Detlef Lingeman, the Ambassador of Germany to Bulgaria was an honorary guest and a presenter at a regular meeting of the club. H.E. talked about the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Germany and presented his hindsight on how these could further strengthen the friendship between the two countries. The expose was followed by a lively question and answer session, which touched upon all the aspects of the current events.
The meeting later continued with introduction of the two newest members of RC Sofia International – Mr. Tony Ripley, a Rotarian and a PHF from Minesotta and Mr. Alberto Rossi a Rotarian and a PHF +1 form Italy, both transferring their membership to our club. They were warmly welcomed by the members and guests and made feel at home.
After that the fellows who attended the Puppet Theater event in Yakimovo, once again successfully organized by our friend and member Dr. Snejana Doncheva shared their impressions of the day.
The fellowship continued with discussions and getting to know the numerous new guests who attended the meeting.

On 5 December, Saturday, Rotary Club Sofia International once again brought joy this time to the kids form Father Ivan’s shelter in Yakimovo, with a puppet theatre specially organized for them.
Unlike previous years, when only a limited number of kids form the social institutions in Sofia had the opportunity to be taken to the Puppet Theatre, this year Rotary Club Sofia International brought the theatre to the kids in Yakimovo village.
The 160 kids received 2 hours of joy, after which Santa Claus awarded all of them with presents. Apart from the personal attention, Rotary Club Sofia International donated numerous toys, children’s books, sweets, and essential food supplies net worth more than 3,000 BGN. This year once again we received help by Mr. Ivan Lisikov – Managing Director of McDonald’s, Nikola Gechev – Director Corporate Sales of Vivacom, Svetoslav Nikolov – Managing Director of BE 4, Lidl, and of course theatre Art Land.
Watching over the smooth organization of the event in cultural house of Yakimovo were personally the President of Rotary Club Sofia International – Mr. Jorg Schenk and of course the longtime member of the club and main organizer of the annual puppet theatre – Dr. Snejana Doncheva.
For their initiative, the members of Rotary Club Sofia International received millions of smiles and happy faces. They congratulated themselves for a yet another hugely successful event and parted with the hosts as long time best friends, promising to come back again to bring presents to the hardest working kids.

On 2 December 2015 Rotary Club Sofia International held its regular meeting in Hilton Hotel Sofia and hosted a demonstration of Capoeira. The show included more than 25 dancers. The members and guests were impressed by the performance and took part in it by clapping to keep up the rhythm of the dancers. You can find videos in our Facebook page. At the meeting the final preparations for the upcoming Puppet Theater trip to Yakimovo were discussed and update on the organization was given by the main responsible for making it all happen once again, Dr. Snejana Doncheva.
The meeting continued with a fellowship, where members of the Sofia International family had the chance to speak with dancers and to learn more about the Capoeira culture.

On 25 November 2015, the District Governor of D-2482 Bulgaria, visited Rotary Club Sofia International. The meeting was attended by numerous members and regular guest, as well as, by our young friends form Rotaract Sofia International and Interact Sofia International at Meridian 22 School.
DG Nina Miteva presented the goals of D-2482 and mainly Support and Strengthen Clubs, Focus and Increase Humanitarian Service, Enhance Public Image and Awareness. She pinpointed best practices that the club can use in achieving its goals for the Rotarian year and shared the initiatives the District is undertaking in order to help clubs in reaching those.
The meeting continued with a fellowship, where members of the Sofia International family had the chance to openly speak to the DG and discuss different aspects of the work of the different clubs in the family.

On 21 November 2015 our Rotaract Club Sofia International celebrated their Birthday at a party in club Live & Loud.

Many members and guests from Rotary, Rotaract and friends of our Sofia International family attended the event.

The party was also attended by the members of the Next Geneations Committee of our club – Ms. Ani Hristova and Ms. Elena Ivanova.
.
The surprise of the evening was an enormous cake and each guest received a huge and tasty slice of it.

The party continued until the early hours of the day.
.
The funds collected at the event will be used for Christmas presents for children with oncology problems. The project is in its third year and is held at Oncology clinics in Sofia and Plovdiv.

On 18 Novemeber RC Sofia International held its regular meeting in Hotel Marinela. We had the pleasure to host an informative and interesting lecture by Mr. Lubomir Datsov – Deputy Minister of Finance in the government of Simeon Sakskoburggotski until 2005. Deputy Minister of Finance in the government of Sergey Stanishev, from September 2005. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session.
During the meeting the upcoming Puppet Theater show for the children of Father Ivan in Yakimovo village was discussed. A number of members of the club have donated different amounts of money for the realization of this initiative. The budget for the project reached 3,000 BGN.
The official part was followed by a fellowship.

On 11 November 2015 RC Sofia International held its regular meeting in Hotel Marinela. We had the pleasure to host a presentation of Mr. Assen Yordanoff – an investigation journalist – writer and owner of bivol.bg.
During the meeting the upcoming events were also discussed. An update of the preparation of the Puppet Theater Project for the kids from Father Ivan’s shelter in Iakimovo was presented by the members of the organization committee. Members and guests were invited by the President of the club to donate money for presents for the kids.

On 4 November 2015, Mr. Todor Todorov, Criminal Psychology, Manager of “Assess” – Lie Detection, Polygraph and Psychological Services was a guest and presenter at a regular meeting of Rotary Club Sofia International. He recounted on the work he has done in the past as part of the Ministry of Interior and acquainted the members and the guests of the club with the activities his company – Assess – is performing now and the numerous achievements and recognitions his team has received. The lecture was followed by a lively question and answer session.
At this meeting once again we welcomed numerous friends and regular guests of the club, as well as two new guests – Mrs. Gergana Rusinova and Mr. Rumen Rusinov.

On 3 November 2015 RC Sofia International members Ms. Ani Hristova and Mrs. Kamelia Dimitrova together with our regular guest and friend Ms. Ophelie Vanthournout attended the presentation of the new book “Cold War in a Hot Place” co-authored by Prof. Randall Baker and Mr. Mykola Polonski.
The presentation of the book took place at the National Military Museum. It was followed by book signing by the two authors and a cocktail.
