(9 May) Meeting of the Presidents of Sofia Clubs with the Mayor of Sofia Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova (+GAL)

On 9 May 2017 Mr. Ani Hristova, President Elect of Rotary Club Sofia International attended the official meeting of the Presidents of Rotary Clubs in Sofia with the mayor of Sofia – Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova.

The meeting stared with a official address to Mrs. Fandakova from the District Governor of Rotary District 2482 Bulgaria Mr. Dimitar Dimitrov. Mr. Dimitrov presented the priorities of Rotary and the goal of Rotary to make the World a better place. Mrs. Fandakova welcomed the numerous of Rotarians. She pointed out, that over the years the Sofia Municipality and the Rotary Clubs from Sofia have developed successful projects in the field of culture and education.

Mr. Dimitrov gave the word to the Assistant District Governor Mr. Christo Мihailovsky, who present the current common project of all Sofia Rotary Clubs – Prevention of traffic accidents. The project was very well accepted from Mrs. Fandakova and she gave her support for the initiative.

Later that Ms. Ani Hristova presented the newest project of Rotaract Club Sofia International – “Keep our Earth Clean”, which will be held on 14 May in the South Park. The idea is to clean the cigarette butts, especially around the kid’s playgrounds. Mrs. Fandakova warmly welcomed the idea and she will support it. Other projects, which were presented:

1. Charter Party of Rotary Club Triadtsa – 3 June, Laura Restaurant. Funds collected will be for prevention of kids Amblyopia by buying a Reflector, which will be donated to the 1st Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment – Sofia. More Information: https://goo.gl/shgIpZ;

2. Prevention of Diabetics – Rotary Club Sofia Center;

3. Community group in Fakulteta neighborhood, by building a Sports playgrounds – Rotary Club Sofia Center, the idea is to stimulate the roma kids to go to school and everyone with success “Good 4” can play on those new playgrounds;

4. Daily Center for Association “Children with oncohematologic diseases” – Rotary Club Sofia Vitosha;

5. Exhibition – “History of Rotary in Bulgaria” past project, under the patronage Of Mrs. Fandakova – Rotary Club Sofia Sredets;

6. Walking paths and flashing signs – Rotary Club Sofia Capital, they built 9 in Pancharevo neighborhood and since then, there are no traffic accidents or hit pedestrians;

7. Bicycle workshop – building a bicycle lane and a bicycle repair shop, which will be mobile – Rotary Club Sofia Capital;

8. Cviatko Kadijiski (Rotary Club Sofia Sredets) proposed a new monument in honor to the memory of Baba Nedelya in the city center of Sofia to be built of Sofia. Nedelya Petkova, also known as Baba Nedelya is a Bulgarian education pioneer. In 1859 she began teaching girls and developed this into a school system for girls across the Bulgarian part of the Ottoman Empire, with hundreds of girls attending classes.
