(13 Feb) Lecture by our Past President – Mr. Horst Stüer on the “Principles of Laser” (+GAL)
On 13 February Rotary Club Sofia International held a numerous in attendance regular meeting, not only by club members, but also by guests like Ms. Dessy Tian, Mr. Brandur Hauksson, and Mr. Thomas Metz. We had our regular meeting in Hilton Sofia.
Discussed topics were the “Goals for the Year”, which shall be updated on our website, and planed activities on our new initiative – the founding of a sitting volleyball team for people with physical handicaps. The club will be known as: “Sofia Owls”.
“Sofia Owls” will be predominantly for persons with physical impairments but wishes to include other non-handicapped athletes regardless of gender, age or race. The goal of the team is to integrate athletes regardless of their physical constituency as long as their physical disability allows to play the sport within the rules and regulations of sitting volleyball.
The fundraising cause for this year on our Wine It 2019 event will be the collecting of money for the sitting volleyball team. All of you are welcome on 14 March in Creative Hall Studio. Additional information is available here.
We also discussed about the Annual Rotary Peace Fellowship 2019-2020, if someone wants to nominate a student, please, contact us or directly Mrs. Snezhana Doncheva.
Club discussions were followed by an “in-house” presentation on the extremely interesting subject “Principles of Laser” by our dear member Mr. Horst Stüer, who refreshed our memories on physics.
After the meeting the fellowship continued in the lobby bar of the hotel.
