RC Sofia International Provides Support to the Local Community in the Community Center at Bukovlak Village, Pleven
Our friends in Austria have been donating baby and infant clothes to Rotary Club Sofia International and we had to assess the best way to distribute them and be sure that the real needy babies and infants could benefit immediately.
Our member Philip Clayton met with The Tulip Foundation, their mission being to encourage social responsibility in Bulgarian society by enhancing cooperation among civil society, the corporate sector, national and local authorities to improve the quality of life and developmental opportunities for the people of Bulgaria.
Mr. Clayton commented: “I was impressed with what they were doing to support young Mothers and babies who sadly find themselves having to institutionalize their babies due to lack of support and counseling. Clearly clothes are necessary and toys bring a smile to the baby’s face, which in turn takes off some pressure and assists in avoiding the institutionalization of their young children.”
Mr Clayton visited the local community centre in Bukovlak village and immediately admired what the community center staff and the local young social care workers were doing. Accompanied by with Maria Petkova, Director of The Tulip Foundation, and the social care workers, Philip Clayton brought with him 70% of the clothes/toys that have been donated to date and had no hesitation to hand them over to the Community center Manager.
On behalf of Rotary Club Sofia International, thank you to our Austrian friends who through their generosity have allowed us to support this initiative and other projects.
The remaining clothes and toys will be distributed to other institutions.
