(Aug 21-25) RC Sofia International Supported Rotary International’s Premiere Rotaract Global Model United Nations (+GAL)
A member of Rotary Club Sofia International supported the organization and participated as a member of the executive committee at the first edition of Rotary International’s new global annual initiative – Rotaract Global Model United Nations. The event was the premiere event of the new program of RI to bring together and work with young leaders of different ethnicities and cultures. The event gathered Rotary affiliated (Rotaract, Interact members) young people and non-Rotary engaged youth leaders from 30 nations around the globe (4 continents). The project uses the the popular Model United Nations concept (a simulation of the work of the UN or other international organization), which for the first time was an official Rotary project. The RI President Mr. Ron D. Burton sent an official message for the recognition of this project carried out in District 2241 (Romania and Republic of Moldova). The event was also supported by Mr. Valentin Stoyanov (District Governor for D-2482 – Bulgaria). The past and current DGs of D-2241 – DG Mr. Marian Liviu Mocan and PDG Mr. Radu Popescu embraced the idea and also also supported the project by giving 50% of the participation fee for every Rotaract member of the D-2241 as a financial aid. The event was organized by Rotaract TEAM Baia Mare with the valuable and crucial support of the Rotary clubs and the Rotary members in Baia Mare and Romania. The President of the Organizing team, Mr. Dan Ungureanu and the Secretary-General, Ms. Alexandra Matei are both Rotaract members and active MUN participants.
The member of RC Sofia International, Mr. Dimiter Mandradjiev took part as member of the Secretariat and executive board of the event. He also carried out meetings with members of the Rotary family in Romania and exchanged presentations. The friends from the Rotary community in Baia Mare city (Maramures region, Romania) have expressed and extended their good feelings and gratitude for the Bulgarian support.
The next edition of Rotaract Global MUN will be in another RI District in another state. Soon more to come.
